Purple is the signature color for Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. The YWCA of Genesee
County has proclaimed the first Thursday of the month as Healthy Relationships Day and, as a result,is planning a series of events to happen on this day. That includes the annual Stiletto & Sneaker Walk, an agency partner thank-you breakfast, balloon launch and Community Harvest Supper to cap off the day with a delicious meal prepared with local agricultural produce and products. Local school districts will also be invited to participate by wearing purple and showing support with positive messages focused on healthy relationships.

Yes, we can all get distracted by the ugliness of abuse and violence that occurs on a regular basis,
both locally and throughout the world. We need to focus on the answer: healthy relationships! If one
is in a loving relationship that is HEALTHY (where love does not equal control), then that’s a new
path toward ending the cycle of violence. Wear purple on Thursday, October 1 to show your support and #Thurple!
