The YWCA of Genesee County is known for its incredible work assisting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, dating violence and human trafficking. What you may not know is that we also have a second hand boutique called My Sister’s Closet and a soon to be food pantry!
My Sisters Closet offers quality name brand clothing, at a discounted price, for anyone in the community. Survivors in our services receive clothing for free. Oftentimes women come to us with nothing more than the clothes on their back; this incredible program provides them with the dignity of shopping for quality clothing at no cost to them to help, providing one small step in helping them get back on their feet.
I am excited to announce that My Sisters Closet is moving to a larger space (double the size) and the current donation room for My Sister’s Closet will be converted into a food pantry. While we are using volunteer support and donations where we can there are a few expenses we will have to make both of these spaces look and feel like the high-quality dignified spaces people in our community deserve.
We are looking to raise $5,000 to offset the cost of renovations. Although this may seem like a nominal amount it would help us out greatly. We have made the conscious decision not to pull from our current funds as we strongly believe they should go towards programming and helping those in need.
