The YWCA of Genesee County is pleased to welcome Jacquelyn (Jackie) Wheeler to our amazing team of staff. Jackie, who has hit the ground running, just started as the YWCA’s new Crisis Counselor; a position funded through support from the Garman Family Foundation, administered by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. “This crucial role is something we were missing in our services,” says Jamie Rada, Executive Director. “Our community has expressed a significant need for Crisis Counseling Services, we are now ready and eager to help fill that void.”
Jackie was born and raised in Genesee County and is thrilled to be back working in her community. She is a graduate of Canisius University with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Jackie has helped people living with addictions, families supporting a child with Autism, and has an extensive background in child and family therapy. She utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques and approaches. Jackie loves to read and travel, she enjoys different kinds of tea from around the world, fun mugs and big dogs.
Case Managers at the YWCA already offer intensive support, safe temporary shelter, 24 crisis hotline services, court advocacy, information and referral, support groups and safety and transitional planning for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, human trafficking, sexual assault, and stalking. Jacquelyn will provide more therapeutic services, complementing the services and work we are already doing and adding a much needed piece of continued healing and support for the people we assist.
