A safety plan is a personalized, practical plan that includes ways to remain safe while in a relationship, planning to leave, or after you leave. Safety planning involves how to cope with emotions, tell friends and family about the abuse, take legal action and more.
Our advocates can sit down with you to discuss your situation, create a safety plan that best fits your needs and provide guidance on how to navigate different scenarios. Call our 24-hour domestic violence hotline at 585-343-7513 to speak with an advocate and get started now.
Here are some things to keep in mind when creating your safety plan:
- Documentation for yourself and your children (Birth certificates, acknowledgment of paternity, social security card)
- An extra bag of clothing, in case you need to leave in a hurry
- Emergency numbers
- A code word
- Changing locks on doors
